busyness

The Chinese join two characters to form a single pictograph for busyness: heart and killing. That is stunningly incisive. The heart is the place the busy life exacts its deepest toll.

Mark Buchanan, The Rest of God, p.45

This is a cool quote, but Professor Victor Mair, Professor of Chinese Language and Literature, University of Pennsylvania, disagrees with the implications of this interpretation of the pictograph.
